Teotihuacan balloon ride prices

Listings start at about $113, but the price you see is rarely the morning you picture. Here is what each option covers, what you pay on the day, and how to compare like with like.

Almost every Teotihuacan balloon listing on Viator has two or three options. The cheapest one, the price shown in search results, is usually the flight alone: you get yourself to the launch field outside the city by about 6 AM. The options with round-trip transport from Mexico City and breakfast in a cave cost more.

Prices below are the live from-prices on Viator in 2026, in US dollars per person. They move with the season and the exchange rate, so the checkout price is the one that counts.

The quick answer

Shared flights start at about $113 to $155 per person on Viator, usually for the flight-only option. Adding Mexico City transport and the cave breakfast raises the price. On the day, budget MXN 210 per person for pyramid entry, tips, and a weight surcharge if you are over 100 kg (220 lb). Photo packages are optional extras.

What does the cheapest option include?

Usually the flight itself, coffee before take-off and a toast after landing, but no transport and no breakfast.

The listing for the most-booked flight, for example, names its two options plainly: "Balloon flight without transportation and without breakfast", and "Balloon flight in Teotihuacán + breakfast in cave + Transport". Read the option names at checkout before you compare prices between operators.

The flight-only option is the same flight, without the van and the breakfast.

Is it worth paying for transport from Mexico City?

For most visitors, yes: pickup is between about 4:00 and 5:10 AM, and finding a launch field an hour outside the city in the dark is hard work.

Transport options cover central areas such as the Centro, Reforma, Roma, Condesa and Polanco; other areas pay extra or use a nearby meeting point. The van is shared and usually brings you back after the pyramids. Flight-only makes sense if you are already staying near Teotihuacan or have a car.

Staying in central Mexico City? The pickup option takes the 4 AM navigation off your hands.

What do you pay on the day?

Pyramid entry, tips, any weight surcharge and, if you want them, photos.

  • Pyramid entry: MXN 210 per foreign visitor (MXN 105 for Mexican nationals), set by INAH and paid at the gate. Most balloon packages exclude it.
  • Weight surcharge: most operators charge above 100 kg (220 lb), for example MXN 35 per extra kilo, or a flat MXN 500 for 100 to 120 kg.
  • Tips: for the pilot, crew and guide, in pesos.
  • Photos and video: sold at the field, never in the price.

Which packages include the pyramid entry?

Only a few: We Fly's all-inclusive option includes entry and a certified guide, and the ground tours do.

Most packages give you time at the archaeological zone but leave the ticket to you. If having everything paid in advance matters, the We Fly all-inclusive option is the one to check. Otherwise, carry pesos.

Why do prices vary between operators?

Group size, what is bundled, and how much time you get at the ruins, more than the flight itself.

The flights are similar: shared baskets, dawn take-off, about 45 to 60 minutes in the air. Differences show up around them. Some tours cap groups at 15 or 16, some include a guide at the pyramids, and some give only about an hour at the site. Reviews mention crowded baskets on some flights, so group size is worth checking.

Dozens of balloons fly each morning; the operator matters more than the route.

Is a private balloon flight worth it?

Only for a special occasion: shared flights deliver the same view for a fraction of the price.

Several operators sell private baskets as a separate option. For a proposal or a family celebration it can be worth asking; for most travelers, the shared basket is the better value.

How do you get the best value?

Book the option that matches your real morning, compare total cost, and fly early in your trip.

If you want transport and breakfast anyway, compare package prices, not from-prices. Check how long you get at the ruins. And book one of your first mornings, so a weather cancellation can be moved. Not keen on 4 AM? Read what the route really looks like before you decide.
